One of Gotham's landmark hotels, The Plaza has asserted a steadfast place in American culture, appearing in films like "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Home Alone 2." Even Eloise (of the storybook series) has her own pink-striped suite, designed by Betsey Johnson. But this New York mainstay – an attraction in and of itself – is very much a luxury hotel, complete with white-gloved butlers. Many recent travelers said that staying here is an iconic experience, and the service, suites and even family-friendliness deserve major props. The elegant Palm Court and Champagne Bar earn a nod of approval from recent visitors for their romantic settings and delectable dishes. And as far as bedding down is concerned, guests have only positive things to say about this Fairmont outpost's decadent accommodations, outfitted in 24-carat gold fixtures, elegant decor and spacious marble bathrooms complete with signature toiletries.
